Stay Focused This Summer
Welcome to your self care summer—where you can thrive, connect, and stay grounded without losing yourself in the noise.
You look up, the sun is out longer, the group chats are dinging, the festivals and day trips start stacking up, and self care summer vibes are trending again. After months of hibernation, healing, and heavy emotional lifting, it’s tempting to toss your journal in a drawer, put your boundaries away with your winter clothes, and dive headfirst into the outside vibes.
But here’s the thing: outside can be both healing and overwhelming. Joyful and overstimulating. Energizing and exhausting. The trick isn’t to avoid it—it’s to show up for your life while honoring the progress you’ve made. It’s a time to reintroduce yourself by showing off your hard work and healing.
Embrace Self-Care Routines

1. Revisit Your Why (Self Care Starts with Intention)
Before you RSVP to every event or romanticize every hot girl summer possibility, PAUSE! What were the goals you set in therapy this year? What themes kept coming up in your sessions?
Were you trying to communicate better, set stronger boundaries, say “no” without guilt, or rest without earning it? Maybe you realized that drinking did some damage in your life last summer, and you told yourself you would slow down. What about your health goals? You didn’t build your summer body for no reason; don’t forget to schedule wellness/workout time into your self care summer vibes.
Write them down. Screenshot your favorite takeaways from sessions. Make them visible in your notes app or on your fridge. You’ve come too far to forget your why, friend—and starting over might be even harder the next go-round.

2. Be Mindful of the Company You Keep (Protecting Your Peace This Self Care Summer)
Not every invitation deserves a yes, and not every familiar face deserves a front-row seat in your life. Just because they’re still “cool” with them doesn’t mean you have to be. Remember where the chapter ended with some people before you give them a spotlight this season. Choose people and places that feel safe, steady, and soul-filling.
If your body tenses when you see their name pop up, trust it. If you’re always recovering after a hangout instead of feeling recharged—trust that, too.
Self care summer means being selective about your energy—not because you’re antisocial, but because you’re finally listening to yourself.
3. Refill Your Cup After the Fun (Recovery Is Part of Self Care)
Let’s be honest: Summer joy can feel like you’re playing all 4 quarters in the championship game—nonstop fun, and also draining. Social hangovers are real, and friend, that 2 hours of sleep that you got is not going to cut it.
Build in recovery time after the concert, brunch, or weekend getaway. Take an extra day off after the weekend, nap, walk, hydrate, journal, and, most importantly, rest without guilt. Self care summer isn’t just bubble baths—it’s planning for rest like you plan for fun.
Self-care isn’t a reward for burning out—it’s a rhythm that sustains you.

Stay Committed to Your Therapy Journey
Embrace the summer with confidence by staying dedicated to your mental health goals. If you need guidance or a listening ear, don’t hesitate to reach out for support. Let’s make this season one of growth and self-discovery together.
4. Keep Boundaries on the Guest List (Boundaries = Self Care)
Just because you’re out more doesn’t mean your boundaries stay home. You’re still allowed to say:
- “I’m gonna dip early.”
- “This is my budget and I’m not going over it.”
- “That topic is off-limits for me. We can talk about something else, though.”
- “I love y’all, but I’m staying in this weekend. Be safe and have fun!”
Fun doesn’t mean you must shrink or tolerate what you’ve already outgrown. Practice holding your boundaries even in the moments that feel light and casual—that’s where they’re tested most. Remember, boundaries aren’t ultimatums or punishments to others—they’re actually pillars FOR YOU!
This [self care summer], let boundaries ride shotgun with you, not get left behind.
5. Assess Expectations (Authenticity Over Approval)
Summer can bring big energy—and sometimes, big pressure. More visibility, more invites, more interactions. Be real about what you actually want versus what you think you should want.
Release the expectation to be everywhere, please everyone, or perform happiness. Show up as your authentic self, respect yourself just as much as you respect others, and know when to exit stage left if that isn’t good enough for those around you.
Co-existing with others means understanding that you don’t control how they move, but you can choose your response. Stay close to your core values and act from your truth—not just the heat of the moment or others’ expectations.
This Is Your Self Care Summer—Own It
Outside is calling—but so is your peace.
You can 2-step at the cookout and still honor your healing. You can live it up at the day party and still need time alone the next day. You can grow, rest, and protect what you’ve built—even when outside calls. This season isn’t about choosing between joy and boundaries—it’s about merging them. Stay grounded, remember your “why,” approach this self care summer with intention and a game plan, and stay kind to yourself.
And remember: thriving isn’t seasonal—it’s intentional.
